Its that time of year again…time to select my favorite images of 2020.  This is always a beneficial process for me, to review the years work and select those that I feel stand out above the rest. To be sure, I’m thankful to have anything to review considering the year we’ve all had.

It’s a time to reflect on the beauty I’ve witnessed in my travels. It’s a time to be grateful to have the experiences over the past year in creating the images. It’s also a time to assess and reflect on how my photography has changed over the year (if it has at all). I also take a little time to think about the year ahead and consider areas that I might want to work on to improve my creative output.

Selecting my favorite images of 2020 was easier than in years past, partly due to the reduced number of images I created this year and partly due to some incredible locations I was able to photograph before the pandemic.  From Canada to Iceland to Norway and then the deserts of Arizona, the year started off in some amazing locations as I lead workshops through these amazing landscapes.  Then the pandemic hit and all travel stopped.  And to be honest, it was tough at times to keep the creative juices alive and photograph with the same passion as I had before the lockdown.  I was able to travel solo within the Pacific Northwest and photograph the coastlines and mountains, keeping my creative muscles in shape.

After reviewing all of my images, I managed to select about 80 different images that I felt could be my favorite images of 2020.  From there I culled the images further, looking at both technical as well as aesthetic qualities, plus some that I just love for what they represent to me.  If you’ll indulge me, please take a look at the video I put together with the expanded list of finalists for my favorite images of 2020.  Watch below or click HERE to view on YouTube.

I want to send my thanks and good wishes to you and yours for a bright new year filled with happiness, hope and lots of photography!
