If you are in need of additional lighting when you’re out in the field, look no further than a Litra Torch lighting product.  I have several rechargeable LCD light panels but this one is heads and shoulders above the rest and one that I think you should really check out.

The body is machined from aluminum and it is one rugged beast, able to withstand hard knocks.  It’s billed as an “adventure light” to go along with your adventure camera (GoPro), but I’ve been using it in less adventurous ways to augment my photography kit in the field.   I’ve used it as a fill like when shooting macros or close-up shots of flowers as well as an auxiliary light for shooting video clips of myself for my vlog.   I’ve also recently used it as an “under-light” to illuminate agates from underneath as I photograph above.

I got a deal on the Litra Torch lighting 1.0 version and they’ve since come out with a 2.0 version which has a couple more bulbs in it. As it is, this light produces 800 lumens of light at a color temperature of 5700 kelvin (daylight) My specific light came with a diffuser, a GoPro mount, a hot shoe mount, a belt clip as well as a charging cable.  Retail price on the 2.0 version is $90, which seems a bit steep at first, but I bet this will be the last portable light you will need to purchase.  It’s such a well built piece of kit.  It comes with two threaded tripod mounting holes, on the bottom and the back as well as a magnet embedded in the back in you need to affix it to something.

There are three settings of brightness for the light plus a strobe setting.  All controlled by the one button on the top of the Litra Torch.  It is a rechargeable light and can run up to 4 hours on a single charge plus it has a wide 80 degree angle of light dispersion.   And, to top it off, it is waterproof up to 30 feet!

The Litra Torch is a bit on the heavy side in my opinion, but for the ruggedness and waterproofness, it’s a fair trade off.  If you shoot video or macro, or just need a robust light source in the field for light painting or whatever, the Litra Torch is something you need to look at.  I’m so impressed with the build quality, the quality of light and the included accessories.
