Photograph the Pacific Northwest on this PNW Palouse Harvest workshop

Join Jack Graham and myself in the wheat fields of Eastern Washington to photograph the world famous Palouse area during harvest season. this is a unique time of year to be in the area, with rolling hills of yellow heat waiting to be harvested.  Jack and I have many years leading workshops in this area and we know the best spots to get both the iconic and hidden gems in this area. The rolling hills of wheat, barley, lentils and canola with country roads punctuated by over 100-year-old barns lends itself to a photographer’s paradise.  The subject matter is endless. The “Palouse” area is located in Southeastern Washington where the major towns are Pullman, Washington and Moscow, Idaho.

The Palouse can challenge all photographers to create compelling compositions amidst the rolling hills and country settings.  Various shades of yellows and browns offset the blue skies with trees dotting the landscapes.  It offers such a wide range of photographic subjects and compositional possibilities!  During harvest season, the fields are active with machinery kicking up plumes of dust which add to the golden sunlight to create ethereal scenes.  When not being plowed, the fields offer rolling hills of golden wheat stalks that create amazing patterns to the eye.  The abundance of subjects and wide diversity from grand landscape to intimate shots, macro as well as a large amount of “americana” types of images make this a truly incredible location to photograph.  This is a prime time for either color or monochrome photography as the subject matter lends itself well to either!
