Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime photo workshop photographing the bears of Katmai N.P.. You won’t want to miss this incredible experience photographing grizzly bears in their natural habitat along with other Northern wildlife, all in the beauty of the Fall colors.

We have the best guides in the region and will go to areas few others ever travel to. This wilderness area is sparsely populated. The bears rule the land here and humans have adapted to respect the bears for what they are. As a result, the bears have little fear of humans since they are the kings in this wilderness. We will be in the ultimate location for the amazing experience of photographing these marvelous animals as they dive into the rivers to catch salmon before their winter hibernation. This workshop is during the Fall season in Alaska which means that we’ll have beautiful foliage as a backdrop to the bears.

We will fly in to Katmai N.P. each day on float planes and use inflatable rafts to float small streams through bear country in the Alaska wilderness.  Gently floating past fishing grizzly bears, stopping wherever there is a good photo opportunity, each day is filled with amazing experiences.  A lunch is provided for us and each day we will stop along the river to eat, shoot or just relax in this beautiful landscape. At the end of each day we will fly back to our lodge for amazing food and a warm bed after recounting the days adventure among us.  The bears can come very close to us on these trips, giving you an up-close and personal experience, but don’t worry, they are more interested in salmon than us humans.  Our guides will navigate the boats and ensure our safety in this wild land. Weather and conditions permitting, we may also fly to the world famous Brooks Camp to photograph the bears fishing on top the waterfall and in the surrounding areas.  We may even get a chance to fly up and visit Dick Pronnekes cabin along Twin Lakes.  An amazing experience to see how this man lived alone in the wilderness for many years!

We will stay in a wonderful lodge along Lake Iliamna and enjoy home cooked meals for breakfast and dinner. Lunches will be provided to us each day to eat in the field. The itinerary for each day will be specifically catered to us and our photographic priorities and we will be flown into the Alaskan wilderness by float plane (we have the best and most experienced pilots with us) and guided to the best locations.   Note:  the ability to fly and which locations are accessible are weather dependent and during the Fall there is more likelihood for weather delays.

Each evening we’ll download our images and provide comprehensive discussions regarding composition, animal behavior, “seeing images” and the formulation of artful photography. In addition to getting you to the right locations, we’ll make sure your photographic skills are developed as well.  While at our locations, we’ll help you both technically, developing proper field techniques and artistically, to help bring out your best creative photography.

Upon registration you’ll receive a complete PDF file containing everything you need to know concerning lodging, transportation, etc. for this once in a lifetime experience.

Activity Level:  The activity level for this trip is Moderate.  This means that you will need to walk up to 2 miles a day over uneven terrain or through shallow creeks.

Travel to Iliamna and any lodging before or after the workshop are the responsibility of the attendee.  All lodging, meals and transportation during the workshop are included in the workshop cost.  Waders and wading boots are also provided.

We are limiting this trip to a small number of attendees. Accommodations are double occupancy only in private cabins. If the workshop appears sold out on the website, please contact us to inquire about attending. Please contact us for more information about this amazing trip if you are interested, or sign up today.  We have a limited number of spots for this trip as it is a custom experience tailored to give you the best photographic opportunities possible.
