SUMMARY:Redwoods National Park Photo Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is currently sold out. If you would like to be added to the wait-list\, please send me an email with your interest. \nWalk amongst the giant redwoods and old growth forests on my Redwoods National Park photo workshop.  It is a humbling and awe-inspiring experience to be amongst these trees\, some of which are hundreds or thousands of years old.  Towering hundreds of feet overhead\, we will work on photographing these majestic giants and their surroundings in ways that portray their magnificence and grandeur.  We will visit the major groves of trees in the park complex and spend time learning ways to capture the beauty and immensity of the old growth forests.  Along with the tall trees\, there is plenty to do along the forest floor as well with ferns\, flowers and fungi.  Wide-angle to macro\, this area provides rich opportunities for every photographic interest.  Situated along the Pacific Ocean\, we will also spend some time photographing the ocean and local lighthouses. \nThe Redwoods \nThe Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) are a complex of one United States national park and three California state parks located along the coast of northern California. The combined RNSP contain Redwood National Park\, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park\, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park\, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. The parks’ 139\,000 acres (560 km2) preserve 45 percent of all remaining old-growth coast redwood forests. Located in Del Norte and Humboldt counties\, the four parks protect the endangeredcoast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens)—the tallest\, among the oldest\, and one of the most massive tree species on Earth—which thrives in the humid temperate rainforest. The park region is highly seismically active and prone to tsunamis. The parks preserve 37 miles (60 km) of pristine coastline\, indigenous flora\, fauna\, grassland prairie\, cultural resources\, waterways\, as well as threatened animal species\, such as the Chinook salmon\, northern spotted owl\, and Steller’s sea lion. \nThis makes it the perfect location to explore your creative vision and push the boundaries of how you see and capture the world around you. \n  \nadd to cart / register today\n  \n\n  \nFitness Level: Easy/Moderate \nWe will be walking on slightly uneven forest paths with some elevation gain/loss.  The workshop is structured to allow for all fitness levels\, you can go as far or as short as you want with plenty to photograph either way. \nLogistics \nYou can fly in directly to Medford or Portland airports and drive the remaining distance to the workshop. We will be based in Crescent City CA\, which puts us in a prime location for many of the locations we will visit.   We will travel each day from the hotel to our locations and return at various times for rest and/or image reviews.  More information will be sent to you after registration. \n \n\n\n\n\nWhat’s Included\nWhat’s Not Included\n\n\n\n\n• Expert guiding\n• Travel to/from workshop location and during workshop\n\n\n• In-field photographic instruction\n• Lodging\n\n\n• Classroom instruction\n• Meals\n\n\n• Post workshop syllabus and support\n\n\n\n• New friends and a great time!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Palouse Harvest Photo Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join me for the Palouse Harvest Photo Workshop in the wheat fields of Eastern Washington. This is a unique time of year to be in the area\, with rolling hills of yellow wheat waiting to be harvested along with freshly tilled soil so dark it is almost black in color.  We will have a wide color palette to create stunning images in this beautiful location. Spring is often the most “popular” time\, however harvest is my absolute favorite time to be here as there is so much more to do photographically!  I have many years leading workshops in this area and we know the best spots to get both the iconic and hidden gems in this area. The rolling hills of wheat\, barley\, lentils with country roads punctuated by over 100-year-old barns lends itself to a photographer’s paradise.  The subject matter is endless. The “Palouse” area is located in Southeastern Washington where the major towns are Pullman\, Washington and Moscow\, Idaho. \nThe Palouse \nIf you’ve never photographed the Palouse\, you owe yourself the opportunity to do it.  The vast and far reaching wheat fields\, barns and old buildings and lots of Americana dominate the experience here.  During the Spring\, the wheat is a beautiful shade of green\, providing a nice contrast to the weathered wood and blue skies.  Photographing this time of year can be challenging and creatively rewarding. \nHowever\, when we visit the Palouse area during the harvest time in August\, things are much different…equally beautiful and more demanding creatively. This is why I chose to offer my MasterClass during the harvest time.  We typically experience mature wheat fields waiting to be harvested\, on to cut fields and then the dark earth of recently plowed fields. The color palette has shifted from one or two shades of green in the spring to a wide palette of yellows and browns so we have much more color variation\, along with the amazing lights and shadows\, to utilize in our compositions. \nWe also have more design elements to play with in our photographs during the harvest than we do in the spring.  When the fields are first cut\, there are lines in the fields that turn out to be an important compositional element.  They also add an additional challenge to the photographer in figuring out how to integrate those lines in the composition so they add to the shot\, not detract from it. \nI’ve always said that the Palouse is on my top 3 list of most challenging places to shoot\, on par with Death Valley and the Hoh Rainforest.  As an artist\, I enjoy visiting challenging locations because it pushes me to be better and think differently to come away with pleasing images.  During the Palouse harvest\, this challenge is invigorating and exciting because of the incredible palette of possibilities that are in front of us during this time of year. \nThis makes it the perfect location to explore your creative vision and push the boundaries of how you see and capture the world around you. \nHere’s a short video from my 2021 harvest workshops \n\n  \nadd to cart / register today\n  \n\n  \nFitness Level: Easy \nAll locations close to the cars and we will be on maintained level ground. \nLogistics \nYou can fly in directly to Spokane or Seattle Washington. We will be based in Colfax WA\, which puts us in a prime location for many of the locations we will visit.

SUMMARY:Fall Color in Grand Teton National Park
DESCRIPTION:The majestic Grand Teton mountain range makes a perfect backdrop for the amazing Fall color in Grand Teton National Park that arrives every year.  Explore the park with me as we capture the barns along Mormon row. View the Snake River from the Snake River Overlook.  Visit rustic cabins used in the movie Shane.  Plus capturing the amazing Fall color along the way. We’ll visit these\, plus many other locations off the beaten path that are typically lush with the colors of Fall.  This is an amazing National Park and to explore it during this time of year is simply the best.  Every year I visit this park at least once and each year the scenes and images are incredible and often very different.  To visit during the change of seasons is a great time to see how the alpine landscape sheds its summer wardrobe in preparation for the long cold winter. Plus\, the wildlife starts to become more active as Winter is approaching and they hurry to fatten up and take care of business before the snows arrive.  We have a chance to see bison\, moose\, bear\, red fox\, eagles\, antelope\, pronghorn sheep\, bighorn sheep and maybe more! \nPlease consider joining me on this Grand Tetons photo workshop to capture memorable scenes\, increase your compositional and creative skills\, and have a great time in this amazing landscape.  My goal during the workshop is to get you to the right places at the right times for the chance to capture amazing images.  And when on location\, provide as much\, or as little\, assistance as you want. The workshop will be based out of Jackson Wyoming and we will travel in to the Park daily to photograph.  We will also have time for classroom sessions to review images and discuss creative techniques to bring your photography to the next level. *Authorized permitee of the National Park Service \n*John Pedersen Photography is an Authorized Permittee of Grand Teton National Park * \n  \nadd to cart / register today\n  \n\n  \nFitness Level: Easy \nNo strenuous hikes. We will be close to our vehicles and all locations should feature gentle walks with some uneven terrain.  We will be at elevation\, averaging 6\,000′ above sea level\, which increases exertion levels\, so please be aware of t his prior to registration. \nTravel To/From Workshop \nThe closest airport is in Jackson WY.  It is an easy location to fly in to as it is served my major airline hubs across the U.S.  If you are choosing to drive\, remember this is a mountainous location and weather and road conditions may impact your travel. \n \n\n\n\n\nWhat’s Included\nWhat’s Not Included\n\n\n\n\n• Expert guiding\n• Travel to/from workshop location and during workshop\n\n\n• In-field photographic instruction\n• Lodging\n\n\n• Classroom instruction\n• Meals\n\n\n• Post workshop syllabus and support\n\n\n\n• New friends and a great time!\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Intimate Oregon Coast Photo Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Explore the amazing beauty of the Pacific Ocean on my Intimate Oregon Coast photo workshop. We will spend an intensive few days along the Oregon Coast to capture the moods and personality of this amazing coastline in this photo workshop. Instead of visiting dozens of locations\, we will focus our time in a few areas that are rich with photographic opportunities.  The workshop will be based out of Yachats and we will focus our time and creative energy on locations around Yachats\, from south of Yachats at Cape Perpetua (Thors Well) to Newport (lighthouse and fishing fleet).   We will visit several locations more than once so that we can become attuned to the location and create more compelling images through repeated exposure to the tides and moods of the area.  We will conduct several image reviews along with educational sessions during the workshop to help elevate our creative vision and technical skills in capturing this magnificent landscape. \n  \nWe will focus on much more than the grand landscapes in this workshop….I will work with each attendee to focus their vision to tell a more compelling story with each and every image. Using telephoto lenses to isolate and simplify\, shooting intimate nature images\, macros/close-ups…we’ll do it all in this central Oregon Coast workshop.   By the end of our time together\, my goal is that each person has learned a great deal about creativity\, photography and has had a fantastic experience in this amazingly beautiful setting. \n  \nWe will be at the right place\, at the right time to capture some amazing images\, found only on the Oregon coast while honing out photographic skills. Specific locations have been determined by years of experience. We’ll visit some of the well-known\, iconic places\, as well as many places off the beaten path. In addition\, to really experience the Intimate Oregon Coast\, we will revisit certain locations a few times in order to dive deep in to the creative possibilities that are only unlocked with some familiarity. The Oregon Coast workshops are perhaps my most anticipated. The Oregon Coast contains some of the most varied\, unique areas. Because of its remote beaches and tide pools\, rocky coastline with majestic sea stacks and dramatic sunsets\, this area offers great and different photographic experiences at every turn. \n  \nPreparation and being in the right mindset can help you achieve better results. Before the workshop begins\, we will send you several updates so you can better prepare for the conditions and environment.  Please read this helpful article on how to prepare for one of our photo workshops. \n  \n\n  \n  \nadd to cart / register today\n  \n\n  \nFitness Level: Easy \nNo strenuous hiking. We will walk over un-even ground\, rocky shorelines and rough paths with little elevation changes. \nLogistics \nYou can fly in directly to Portland or Eugene Oregon. We will be based in Yachats Oregon\, which puts us in a prime location for many of the locations we will visit.

SUMMARY:Winter in the Tetons
DESCRIPTION:Nothing says Wyoming like Winter in the Tetons!  At this time of year\, the Christmas decorations are up but the crowds haven’t arrived yet and it’s a perfect time for a photo workshop – Winter in the Tetons!  Join myself and Jack Graham as we lead you on this amazing experience in a landscape that is truly “picture perfect”. Grand Teton National Park is an almost pristine ecosystem and the same species of flora and fauna that have existed since prehistoric times can still be found there.  With the iconic jagged mountains of the Tetons bordering the park on the West\, the famous barns\, rivers\, wildlife and scenery makes this an unforgettable experience.  We have been leading workshops here for 20 years and know the right places to get you at the right times to create amazing images.  \nExperience Grand Teton National Park on this amazing winter photo workshop! We will spend 3 ½ days exploring Grand Teton National Park and the surrounding area. The snow-capped mountains of the Teton range will be visible from the famous Snake River locations we’ll photograph from.  Plus\, much like Yellowstone\, wildlife is common – we often see moose\, elk\, trumpeter swans\, bison and coyotes. And in the winter\, the wildlife is down from the high country and much more active as they forage for food. We will photograph the snow capped mountains of the Tetons range\, rustic cabins\, meandering creeks and rivers\, plus many other fantastic sights.    Join us for this stunning winter adventure!  \nWe will base our workshop out of Jackson Wyoming which is just a short distance from the park.  We will spend our days photographing the landscapes and winter scenes and hunting for the ideal wildlife images.  Plus\, we will spend time doing image reviews and learning throughout the workshop.  The days are short here this time of year and we will make the most of each day\, maximizing our photographic time with the available light and conditions.  \nIf you’re worried about cold\, don’t be!  Yes\, it is an alpine environment and can be cold\, but nothing that your basic clothing can’t handle.  This time of year is perfect as there is usually snow in the higher country\, some down in the valley\, yet it is still warm enough to be comfortable and navigable.  Most of the roads are plowed (though the inner roads of the park are closed) and Mormon Row road is still open for us to access the famous barns! \nPlease note that although the workshop starts at sunrise on December 3rd\, we will meet in Jackson Hole\, WY on the evening of December 2nd for an hour or so to go over itineraries\, travel\, and workshop goals.  \nPreparation and being in the right mindset can help you achieve better results. Before the workshop begins\, we will send you several updates so you can better prepare for the conditions and environment.  Please read this helpful article on how to prepare for one of our photo workshops. \n*John Pedersen Photography is an Authorized Permittee of Grand Teton National Park * \n  \n  \nadd to cart / register today\n  \n\n  \n2022 Workshop Highlights \n\n  \nFitness Level: Easy \nNo strenuous hikes. We will be close to our vehicles and all locations should feature short\, gentle walks with some uneven terrain. This is a winter workshop\, with potentially very cold temperatures.  Having the right gear can make this an enjoyable experience.  Please reach out if you have any questions about gear or preparedness. \nTravel To/From Workshop \nYou can fly in directly to Jackson WY through many connecting hubs.  You will need a rental car to travel to the workshop start and during the workshop (though we try and carpool as much as possible)  We will meet at our hotel in Jackson on Wednesday Nov 29th at 6pm for a Meet and Greet.  More information will be sent to you after registration. \n \n\n\n\n\nWhat’s Included\nWhat’s Not Included\n\n\n\n\n• Expert guiding\n• Travel to/from workshop location and during workshop\n\n\n• In-field photographic instruction\n• Lodging\n\n\n• Classroom instruction\n• Meals\n\n\n• Post workshop syllabus and support\n\n\n\n• New friends and a great time!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n
